Dev log 7 (Oct 23 - Nov 5):

* Dev Log 7 covers two weeks due to Reading Week

Overall progress:

  • Conducted additional playtests:
    • Individual playtesting
    • Ubisoft playtest
  • Designed 3 new levels.
  • Aggregated feedback from previous playtests.

Art team:

  • Finalized all asset models and UVs.
  • Finalized game title design and UI designs.
  • Finalized character model and UVs.

Music team:

  • Began work on background music and put a plan in place for dynamic layering.
  • Identified issues with synchronization and looping.

Programming team:

  • Fixed identified bugs.
  • Implemented new assets.
  • Implemented new levels.
  • Implemented AI hint system.
  • Implemented control popups.
  • Implemented the option to highlight level differences.
  • Separated SFX, Master and Music volume sliders.
  • Smoothened movement by giving player acceleration.
  • Implemented memory of player settings and progress.
  • Implemented continue option.
  • Made tile colours alternate.
  • Implemented occlusion for the player.
  • Made hidden walls update on rotation.
  • Implemented trap door.
  • Removed manual desync.

Challenges:

  • Designing an efficient AI hint system:
    • Tried to precompute solutions in build but ran into issues with data persistence.
    • AI hint system needs to keep up with mechanical changes.
  • Avoiding duplication in occlusion shader of boxes.
    • All boxes using the same occlusion shader causes minor visual quirks.
  • Coordinating the undo system for more specific action types.

Future plans:

  • Polish all asset textures.
  • Implement assets and decorate all levels.
  • Finalize the list of SFX and implement them.
  • Determine the final “roadmap” of levels and plan background music accordingly.
  • Identify and resolve issues with consistency.
  • Determine a plan for reverb, volume normalization, etc that works for implementation.
  • Resolve issues with synchronization and looping in music.
  • Fix more bugs.
  • Implement tutorial.
  • Implement new assets.
