Dev Log 3 (Sep 25 - Oct 1):

Overall progress:

  • Finalised narrative concept and direction of narrative design.
  • Came up with two new puzzle mechanics (room rotation, conveyor belt).
  • Polished existing levels and designed new puzzle levels.

Art team:

  • Finalised concept art for all the assets.
  • Finalised character concepts.
  • Made a sample guide to clarify any misconceptions between the team.

Music team:

  • Worked with the CS team to ensure that the two demo ambience tracks and two demo music tracks were implemented with seamless loops.
  • Decided to use BBC Spitfire Audio as our main sound library and limit the foreground instruments to acoustic to fit the gothic dungeon vibe.
  • Set up the asset spreadsheet as our main organisational tool, facilitating collaboration and task assignment within the team and with the CS & art teams.

Programming team:

  • Implemented the room rotation mechanic.
  • Implemented the conveyor belt mechanic.
  • Implemented an auto-merging camera system.
  • Implemented universal controller support.
  • Implemented looping audio and ambience tracks.
  • Implemented a new large puzzle using the room rotation mechanic.

Challenges:

  • Coming up with creative puzzle designs that could not be easily solved.
  • Misunderstandings between the art team lead and team members on deliverables.
  • Pinning down what sound effects we should create at this early stage of game development.
  • Making the camera transitions smooth.
  • Debugging interactions between new mechanics and the grid system.

Future plans:

  • Creating demo audio assets to test out technical aspects such as the level balance between different sounds.
  • Obtaining new sound libraries, adding to the asset list, and creating task assignments for audio assets.
